F3000 Chopper

When is a chopper pump the best choice?
Often in places such as prisons, train stations, hotels, and laundries long stringy fibrous materials such as pantyhose and blankets get flushed down the toilets and drains. When these materials reach the pump, the fibers can get caught between the rotating parts causing a jam, or worse yet, fibers collect in a ball in areas of low activity and can potentially clog a pump. These types of facilities are everywhere, and are in need of frequent service calls when a clog occurs.

Getting the chop 170 times per second
The solution to these clogging problems is a Flygt chopper pump. The pump incorporates a screw type impeller in conjunction with a high chrome spiral cutting plate. Solids are drawn up into the pump, and rags and fibers are sheared between the hardened edges of the impeller and the cutting plate, reducing them to smaller pieces that can be easily passed through the pump and ultimately through the system. Based upon an operating speed of 1750 RPM, material passing through the pump is chopped 170 times per second!

Flygt chopper pumps can also be used in sludge applications in treatment plants. Even though many plants have screening operations at the head of the plant, sometimes fibrous materials get through, thereby clogging pumps and causing flooding problems. This in turn can result in costly downtime, as well as potentially damaging other equipment within the process. Additionally, plant personnel must take time out of their other duties to fix the problems caused by the pump clog. The Flygt chopper pump eliminates these hassles.

As an added benefit, the screw shape of the impeller helps to draw thicker denser media up into the wet end so that it can be pumped out. This eliminates the need for other types of pumps in the process, providing a simple solution to a difficult problem.

Protection against impeller jamming
The motor and shaft are protected from mechanical damage, if a hard solid objects gets caught in the cutting area.

The largest pump in the range features a unique automatic safety clutch. If a stoppage occurs, the obstructing article is easily removed, either manually, or by running the pump in reverse, and the unit is ready again for action.

For especially thick sludge, the screw-shape design of the impeller works to feed the denser medium through the pump
